HAPPY MEDIUM
MOTIVATION
Education is an important part of our everyday lives, both as children and as independent adults. Many times, teachers struggle to find a happy medium between parental involvement at home and in school. The biggest issue is that some teachers may never see certain parents all year, while on the other hand, some parents may become overly involved and never seem to go away. These parents are often referred to as "helicopter parents." Children are the future, and we must find a way for all parents to be involved in and support their child's education at the same time.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Previous research indicates that helicopter parents feel lost without the teachers' guidance. They believe they need more real-time feedback on their involvement and whether it is on the right track. Teachers are under significant pressure to adjust syllabus content based on parental input. Therefore, our goal is to engage parents in a way that enhances their involvement in childhood education at home, providing sufficient guidance and implementing better measures to achieve the ideal balance between the perspectives of both teachers and parents.
DESIGN PROCESS
Our target users were the primary focus in developing the features required to address the issue between parents and teachers. Three key features of Happy Medium are:
-
Involvement Status
-
Learning Curve
-
Assistance Notifier
During our low-fidelity prototyping, we identified additional features that could also enhance parent involvement. After finalizing our prototype, we took our application into the real world and tested it with actual users. The results were promising, and we now have the opportunity to make it even better.
